His Majesty the King conferred the Druk Wangyal Medals to the Prime Minister Lyonchhen Jigmi Y. Thinley and Chief Justice Lyonpo Sonam Tobgye for exceptional service yesterday morning.The Prime Minister and the Chief Justice are the first Bhutanese citizens to receive this high award.
Announcing the award earlier on the Centenary National Day celebrations, His Majesty the King said Lyonchhen Jigmi Thinley and Lyonpo Sonam Tobgye, throughout their careers have been motivated by service to the nation regardless of what responsibilities they held. They have excelled in carrying out their duties in each position and their devotion to the country is exemplary.
His Majesty said that even today, under a new democratic system they continue to serve the nation in important positions that they have earned through their own merit.
Speaking to BBS earlier, the Prime Minister described the recognition as a symbol of His Majesty’s expectation in the years ahead. The Chief Justice Lyonpo Sonam Tobgye said he is humbled to have been bestowed with such an honor.
